Congrats to my final table adversary, riverstar on his/her victory on 11/3/17 in the Subscribers Freeroll. Unlike, the previous night’s tourney, I charged out the gates capitalizing on a few nutter-butter hands to be a dominating chip leader for most of the tournament. Then that hand, that one decision that we wish we could take back. With 4-5 players remaining, feeling somewhat invincible (obviously should be a red flag), I doubled up the 2nd place finisher, Steeev0 with 44 vs QQ. I was in the big blind and almost instantly had that feeling that I could chop down the hopes and dreams of any AK or AQ given a little low ball help from the dealer. Not so fast though when facing QQ. The board ran out and obviously no need to mention a flopped Q to seal the deal on my hand of fate. Simply put, I deem it as “my bad call of the tournament”. I didn’t need to garner more chips. I didn’t need to save my big blind. I didn’t need to eliminate this opponent at this particular moment. I needed to be more cautious in my hand selection and let the borderline decisions slide by. Be on the look out for the proverbial “red flag” in your next tournament and fade the sense of invincible from the comforts of being a tournament chip leader, no matter the stage of the game. The best time to be the chip leader is when you are the tournament winner. Enough said.
